PRIORITISING SELF-CARE IS NOT SELFISH

A lot of us struggle to prioritise our own self-care because we have been taught that putting yourself first makes you selfish.

This can lead us down a very dark hole, that often leads us to neglect our own happiness to the point where we sacrifice ourselves at every turn.

This can lead to emotional and physical breakdown.

In these strange times, we will have plenty of opportunity to prioritise the needs of those we love and care about above our own self-care. We could even, I’m sure, convince ourself that this is the right thing to do.

However, we must always remember that care begins with ourself.

If we fail to look after our own physical and emotional well being then we can expect to very quickly find ourself unable to care for anyone.

Somebody once told me that with all the people on their list of people to care for they would struggle to put themselves at the top.

I encouraged them to view things slightly differently.

Don’t think of yourself as one of the names on the list... think of yourself as the paper the list is written on.

Without you, there is no list, and without you, nobody gets cared for.

Right now seeing to your own emotional needs is more important than ever.

We are currently all being challenged and the person in the best position to understand what YOU need and provide you with that is you.

Don’t sacrifice your own health to help those around you.

Make time for you...so you are capable of making time for others.

Putting yourself first is not selfish... it’s essential!

What have you done for you today to make sure you’re ok?

Take care,
