PERFECTION

This week we saw sports giants Reebok launch their new ‘Be More Human’ ad campaign. Spearheaded by the queen of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey, the ad sees the ex-women’s bantamweight champion firmly shutting down the idea of perfection  as a realistic goal.

This campaign has resonated with many throughout the globe, who regularly feel pressured into the pursuit of perfection. It’s a common theme in the US in particular and the choice of the UFC’s fallen heroine as their figurehead is of course perfect as, following a shock knockout defeat last year, she continues  along the path of redemption to reclaim her crown.

“Perfect never gets truly tested. Perfect never gets to silence its critics. Perfect never gets a shot at redemption.”

In this week’s blog I talk about the concept of perfection and why it can often be the thing that sets us up to fail in life.

Whilst I would love to claim this video was filmed as a topical response to the media coverage of the Reebok campaign, it was in fact filmed last month after a comment made to me on one of my CONTROL workshops.
One of the attendees suggested that because I was the creator of a system designed to give you control of your own patterns of thought and behaviour surely this means I myself must have achieved perfection.

Take a look at the video to see my response.
