THERAPY WARS!

People are always asking me “What’s the best method to cure anxiety” or “what’s the best method to beat depression?”.

Sometimes I think they just want me to weigh up the different therapeutic approaches in some kind of handy ratings system that will tell them exactly which method will suit them best.

That’s right - It’s time for therapy wars!!

There seems to be as many different therapy methods out there as there are people that need help, and whichever one you choose to try you’re going to hear and read lots of testimony, both positive and negative from people who have tried it.

So whilst I personally don’t have a great deal of regard for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, this is very probably because I see the people who have tried it and found it to be ineffective. The people who have got great success from it don’t then go on to see me because they just don’t need any more help.

The way I treat clients is using The CONTROL System is the way I have developed personally over years of seeing clients one-to-one on a full time basis. It took me a long time to settle on the system that resonated with ME.

However, it might not resonate with you.
The simple truth is that any method of change or support you might find, you’ve found because at some point it has worked for somebody, so you know it has the capability of helping.
But will it help you?
Well let’s be honest, everything works for someone.

However, it’s also true that nothing works for everyone.

Even though some might claim a 100% success rate with clients, these people are either liars or they really don’t do their client follow up meticulously enough. Any claim of 100% success simply fails to take into account the human factor of working with someone remedially or therapeutically.
We are unique beings and what type of method we respond well to will differ from one person to the next. The method that worked for your friend or your relative might not resonate with you.

There’s also the important factor of the practitioner involved. How you respond to the individual taking you through the therapeutic or change process will have a huge impact on the quality of your result. The most effective method in the world is rendered useless in the hands of someone you just don’t relate or respond to.

But its not the method or the practitioner that is the most important factor here when determining your chances of success.

The biggest contributing factor here…is you.

It’s YOUR tenacity, YOUR desire and ultimately YOUR certainty that you won’t stop until you find what works for YOU that ultimately makes the difference.

You might try a hundred different therapies and self help methods and get nowhere before you find what it is that changes life for you. Or maybe you’ll chance upon the answer the first time you try to change.

Whatever it is that you want to change about you, it’s those that refuse to quit that get their result.

Know on thing with absolute certainty. Whatever it is that you wish to change about the way you think feel or behave, change is something that we can all do. it is how we have grown and developed and become who we are. When you find the correct approach for you, the change will happen.
